PowerUp! Pre-Apprenticeship Program
Launched in 2020, the PowerUp Pre-Apprenticeship Program is a transformative workforce initiative addressing barriers to employment for populations traditionally left behind. Supported by United Way's CareerReady ATL with annual funding, the program prioritizes justice-involved individuals, adults, and opportunity youth—regardless of GED status. Our innovative, cohort-based earn-and-learn training model equips participants with essential skills, industry-recognized credentials, practical on-the-job training, and a strong support network to promote long-term success.
As we acknowledge these accomplishments, PowerUp! is committed to further growth by forming strategic partnerships, optimizing resources, and collaborating with various funding sources, thereby enhancing the program’s reach and impact to create even more opportunities for those we serve.
Organizations like the Cobb County Fire Department, the Plumbing Heating and Cooling Contractors Association, and Lockheed Martin have provided training, mentorship, and incorporated PowerUp into their recruitment systems. This approach has created systemic change, with employers relying on the program as a recurring talent pipeline. By combining skills training, certifications, and wraparound support, PowerUp empowers individuals and strengthens local workforce infrastructure, fostering a more inclusive and dynamic economy.
